Scholarship Criteria
The Circle K Classic Scholarship Committee has established criteria for selection of recipients of these scholarships. Criteria for scholarship selection this year will be efforts towards inclusion either through hockey or other community endeavors as well as financial need and volunteer service. Applicants are encouraged to use the personal essay or video as a way to highlight any or all three areas as they may pertain.
Examples of Inclusion Endeavors could include, but are not limited to:
- - Participation in community activities or committees
- - Identification of personal beliefs or behaviors that are/were not inclusive and measures taken to modify them
- - Mentorship programs/activities
**Please do not include any specific names of people, teams, or organizations as part of any examples. This is not intended to be an investigation of any sort or exposing of any past events but rather an example of an inclusion activity for the applicant**
Examples of Financial Need could include, but are not limited to:
- - Reduced ability to access loans (eg. parental income may exceed criteria)
- - Desire to attend a school where tuition rates are not subsidized federally/provincially
- - Loss of or reduced income due to job loss
**The Circle K Classic committee appreciates that financial information can be sensitive in nature and may be hard to discuss. Applicants are encouraged to only disclose as much information as they and their families are comfortable sharing and specifics, such as annual income, should not be shared. Overarching ideas can be shared to the applicant’s comfort level and the committee will not be looking for specific numbers when evaluating this criteria**
Example of Volunteer Services could include, but are not limited to:
- - Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs
- - Seasonal Volunteer service such as Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless or filling of Food Bank bags for Christmas dinners
- - Volunteering for animal support services
- - Providing yard maintenance for free to neighbors (eg. sidewalk angels)
**Volunteer Services does not need to be through an organization and can be anything the applicant donates either their time or a resource to without receipt of payment/compensation**
